Traveling west out of Mineral Wells on Texas Highway 180 you will travel for several miles and eventually arrive in Palo Pinto Texas.  Palo Pinto is a real small town.  The town square consists of the county courthouse and a few old run down buildings.  Not much prosperity in Palo Pinto, apparently.

The town of Mineral Wells sits at the intersection of Texas State Highways 180 and 281. Highway 180, previously U.S. Highway 80, crosses the whole state of Texas, east to west. State Highway 281 crosses nearly the whole state north to south, running from Wichita Falls to San Antonio. Before the Interstate Highway System, Mineral Wells sat at the intersection of two major routes of travel. Today, Mineral Wells sits at the intersection of two major routes of road trip travel. Weatherford Texas Driveby Destinations

Traveling west out of Fort Worth, Weatherford is the first significant town you encounter. The town of Weatherford was established In 1858 .

The town square was laid out at the intersection of the two primary roads approaching town. Instead of the typical layout with streets passing by all four sides of the town square, Weatherford’s square is right in the middle of the roads as you approach from all four directions. Continue reading →
