First Impression and Brief History
A few weeks ago I read a post on the Texas Highways blog about the town of West Texas. I’ve been talking about small towns along this stretch of I35, and West was one I’d visited. Anyway, that post kind of clicked for me because as you know, a road trip isn’t about the destination so much as it is the places you visit along the way. A while back I wrote a post about a road trip across a stretch of Route 66 in Oklahoma. By dumb luck I picked a great stretch of the Mother Road. My drive started in Stroud Oklahoma which is home to the Rock Cafe. Both a Route 66 Roadside Attraction and a National Register Property, the Rock Cafe has some serious credentials as a heritage tourism and Route 66 attraction. Continue reading →

Grandview Downtown
First Impression and Brief History
Grandview Texas is a tiny town along I35W. It’s something like 10 or 11 miles north of Hillsboro Texas. Use the map link at the bottom of this post for an exact location. I like this one red-light town. That light is at the intersections of highways 4 and 81. Farm Road 4 takes you to Cleburne and 81 to Hillsboro, if you go the right way. Continue reading →
