Brief Waxahachie is known as the The Gingerbread City for all its late 19th century Victorian-style homes and buildings. The Ellis County Courthouse is the crown jewel of the Waxahachie town square. The Ellis County Courthouse was constructed in 1897 from plans drawn up by noted architect J. Riely Gordon.
