Cleburne Times Review Features Editor, Monica Green, wrote an article last week about her staycation. The term apparently owes its origin to a popular Canadian television series. A stayaction is when you vacation at home. So I learned a new word on Sunday, July 20, 2008.
The word is new to me but the concept is at the heart of this blog. Last Spring I came up with the idea to write about interesting travel destinations that were close to Dallas Fort Worth. I figured with the cost of travel going up and the economy on the way down, people would be vacationing closer to home. I’d been writing about heritage tourism and off the beaten path attractions on my personal site for a few years. This blog is a far better tool for writing and sharing travel ideas. Now I just hope a few people find this site and chime in with useful comments or share their favorite destinations.
At the beginning of July I wrote about the old town square in Hillsboro Texas. I’ve visited several other towns along that same stretch of I35. Soon I’ll be posting articles about Grandview and West, Texas.
I’ve been busy the last few weeks working on a new WordPress blog for a friend who wants to share some stories about Texas. Before long I should be able to tell you a little more about this new site.
How about this weather! Stay cool and enjoy your Texas Travel.
